Human beings are still exposed to the menace of various infectious diseases even in this age of highly developed medical sciences. The most effective countermeasure against these infectious diseases is prevention through vaccination.
The Research Foundation for Microbial Diseases of Osaka University (BIKEN), for more than 70 years since its establishment in 1934, has been playing an important role in the development and the supply of new vaccines, responding to the needs of the changing times as a public service foundation.
These vaccines have been put into use by the application technology of BIKEN, on the basis of fundamental research in the Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, Osaka University, and are of great help to the health of people all over the world as well as in Japan.
Continually we seek effective and safe vaccines, responding to advancements in life science, relying on brilliant results obtained by our predecessors, and striving to improve existing vaccines and actively develop the next generation vaccines.
In accordance with the recent systemic reforms of the government, our foundation
makes the transition to a new organization by a new law.
Taking this opportunity, we will further enhance conventional activities for
the public services.
We will take the lead in the 21st century as BIKEN of the world, putting forth our slogan of “Live Locally, Grow Globally※”, aiming at harmonious developments with the environment and the local communities.
