BIKEN vaccines highly recognized by the world

Oka strain varicella vaccine is the only varicella vaccine in the world recognized by the WHO as being safe and effective. 300,000 people a year were vaccinated in Japan in 2005. Moreover, in the U.S., vaccination to the general population including children was approved in 1995, and more than 2,000,000 people annually receive vaccination. 8,000,000 doses of this vaccine are used in more than 100 countries in the world per year.
In the expanding program on immunization (EPI) proposed by the WHO, the measles vaccine“BIKEN CAM”was adopted and proven effective.

The techniques of producing Oka strain varicella vaccine were licensed to Merck Sharp & Dohme, lnc(currently, Merck). in the U.S. ln Germany, approval was obtained through the SmithKline Beecham(currently, GSK). Further more, Biken Oka strain varicella vaccine are delivered to various countries through Sanofi Pasteur, SA.

Technological cooperation overseas
for the spread of vaccines

In some countries, the manufacture, quality control, and supply system of vaccines are inadequate, and a large number of children die of infections. In 1980, BIKEN dispatched 18 staff members to cooperate in the vaccine production project in the Federative Republic of Brazil and established a production line for measles vaccine in the country. At present, the measles vaccine“BIKEN CAM”is being distributed, showing great preventive effects on measles.
BIKEN also cooperated in the vaccine production project in Indonesia and established a production line for measles vaccine in the country, and also technologically cooperated for Japanese encephalitis vaccine production in Thailand and Vietnam, and varicella vaccine and influenza vaccine in China.
