Building on Our Pioneering University Startup Heritage
Pursuing World-First Vaccine Development from Japan

Taking on Diseases for Which No Vaccine Exists

Infectious diseases can have a profound impact on people’s health, daily lives, and society as a whole. While vaccine have helped prevent and even eradicate certain infectious diseases, emerging and re-emerging infections continue to threaten humanity.
At BIKEN, we are committed to developing vaccines against infectious diseases that pose a threat to human health, particularly those for which effective preventive measures or adequate treatments are still lacking.

Strong Ties with Academia

BIKEN, as a pioneer among university-originated startups in Japan, has maintained its headquarters on the campus of the University of Osaka, a world-leading institution in microbiology, virology, and immunology.

We accelerate vaccine development through synergies created by collaboration with academic institutions such as the Research Institute for Microbial Diseases (RIMD), as well as the BIKEN Innovative Vaccine Research Alliance

From Basic Research to Preclinical Development

The Innovative Vaccine Research and Development Center represents the earliest stage of BIKEN’s vaccine development pipeline. With the aim of creating groundbreaking vaccines that have never been developed before, the Center advances highly original basic and exploratory research, as well as drug discovery and preclinical research.
We foster independent, proactive researchers who embrace challenges with an open and flexible mindset, while building an environment that supports innovative research.
