Viruses remain a major public health threat. At the same time, insights from virus research have contributed to the development of vaccines against infectious diseases, from traditional live attenuated vaccines to the latest mRNA vaccines. Through basic virus research, we seek to understand viral evolution and survival strategies and apply these insights to vaccine development.
